The Savvy Rest Organic Duvet Insert is an investment, but one well worth it for a good night’s sleep and peace of mind.
Savvy Rest’s Organic Wool Duvet Insert was my top choice. when I needed a new duvet for my kid’s bed. I wanted to avoid anything synthetic, but I also wanted to make sure the materials were ethically sourced and organic.
I also wanted a duvet that works all year round, through the cold winter months right through hot summer nights. This duvet insert does it all!
The Organic Wool Duvet Insert from Savvy Rest is made with GOTS certified organic wool and has an organic cotton sateen cover.
Yes, this is for my kid’s bed, but I have serious duvet envy now. The ‘nice’ thing is that I often end up co-sleeping, so I’ve had a good opportunity to test the duvet insert out myself!
- Certified GOTS cotton and GOTS wool
- Cozy and luxurious for year-round use

Pros
Things I love about this duvet:
- It has a lovely weight to it, without being overly heavy or bulky
- It feels delightfully fluffy and soft
- The wool offers excellent air circulation
- It feels cozy without being sweaty – great for me as I sleep hot!
- My kid sleeps better with this duvet!
I also love that the wool and cotton are both GOTS certified, meaning there are no pesticides, herbicides, or other nasty chemicals lurking in the cover or filling.
And Savvy Rest is an employee-owned Benefit Corporation (B Corp), meaning it has excellent labor standards and sustainability credentials.
Savvy Rest makes the duvet in a U.S. GOTS certified factory, which offers excellent peace of mind over potential contamination.
The duvet I received had a clear date of manufacture which was just a couple of weeks before it arrived at my home. Most duvet inserts are made to order. This means your duvet won’t have been sitting around for months gathering dust, mildew, or mold.
What could be better
The biggest pain point with this duvet is the price.
At $439.00 – $599.00 for sizes Twin/Twin XL, Queen/King, and CA King, this duvet insert is an investment.
After many nights sleeping under this fantastic duvet, though, I think it’s well worth the cost, if your budget stretches to it.
Other downsides include the packaging, which was a thick plastic bag. I appreciate that this helps protect the duvet in transit, but it’s always nice to have a more eco-friendly option, such as a biodegradable bioplastic or reusable organic cotton bag instead.
Also, note that Savvy Rest doesn’t allow returns on this duvet or other bedding. If something is materially wrong with the duvet insert, they offer excellent customer service to sort out the issue. However, if you just don’t like the duvet insert, you won’t be able to get your money back or exchange it for store credit or another item.
The duvet insert is not washable, so it’s best to use a duvet cover with it that you can wash. If you do spill anything on the duvet and it goes through the cover to the insert, you can spot treat the insert with mild soap and water.
To keep the duvet insert fresh, air it out once a month or so on the line in the sunshine.
Don’t put the insert in the washing machine or dryer. Agitation will shrink the wool and make it lumpy and hard.
I also noticed that, in places, the edge stitching wasn’t exactly neat. So, while you could technically use this duvet insert as a standalone comforter, I think it’s best suited for use with a duvet cover.
Look, feel, and final thoughts
At 68 by 86 inches for the Twin/XL, this duvet insert is generously sized. This is intentional, so it can drape over the sides of the bed.
In theory, this draping potential is great. It makes for a cozy, inviting bedroom aesthetic. For a toddler bunkbed up against a wall, though, this does mean there’s excess duvet that bunches up a bit. Personally, it doesn’t bother me and just makes for a cozy nest. And what toddler bed looks neat for long anyway?
Compared to other organic wool duvet inserts that cost the same or more, this one also packs in more wool and is thicker and fluffier.
The Twin/TXL boats around 2 lbs. of wool, and there’s 3 lbs. and 4 lbs. of wool in the Full/Queen and King/CA King respectively. It also has better green credentials than most wool duvets which tend to lack GOTS certification.
All in all, the Savvy Rest Duvet Insert is a hit in our house. And it’s reassuring to know that my kid isn’t sleeping under a sweaty synthetic plastic duvet night after night.
After testing it out myself, the Savvy Rest Organic Duvet Insert remains my top choice for wool comforters.
