Tentree Atlas Sweatpant

Leaf Score

Highlights: Soft, cozy sweatpants made of organic cotton and recycled polyester by a fantastic B Corp that plants 10 trees for every order.

The Tentree Atlas Sweatpant is available in a variety of colors and is breathable and insulating thanks to the soft blend of organic cotton and recycled polyester. Each pair saves an estimated 363.62 liters of water, 1.16 kg CO2, and 0.02 g of waste.

These pants have two hand pockets and a back pocket. The drawstring waist makes for a comfy fit, and you can machine wash them and dry on low.

Tentree is a Climate Neutral-Certified Canadian Benefit Corporation (B Corp) that offers a variety of sustainably made apparel and accessories for all genders. It designs its products in Canada and makes them in Fair Trade certified factories overseas.

Tentree is supportive of the circular economy, using recycled and sustainable materials with a smaller environmental impact. The B Corp has an impressive rating that has grown year on year, and it’s currently in the top 10% of B Corps!

For every order, Tentree plants 10 trees. This amounts to more than 73 million trees so far, with a goal of 1 billion by 2030. When you order, you can register for an account and access a cool visualization tool that shows your trees planted on a virtual forest island. Order more and watch as your virtual world changes and grows. You can also see where your trees are planted in real life, and access information on Tentree planting projects, which it runs through Trees for the Future, One Tree Planted, Eden Projects and the Government of Canada.

Tentree ships everything carbon-neutral certified. Shipping is free for orders over $85 CAD, exchanges are free, and returns are $10 within 30 days of purchase. The company uses minimal packaging and delivers fast. I’ve been very impressed with Tentree’s quality and speed of delivery every time I’ve ordered.

Coyuchi Men’s Dillon Organic French Terry Jogger Pants

Leaf Score

Highlights: Certified organic, Made Safe, and Fair Trade lofty, soft jogger pants from a sustainably-minded company.

Coyuchi doesn’t have a huge range of clothing (yet) but does offer these lovely organic jogger pants with a bit more heft and comfort than thin lounge pants. The pants have a relaxed fit, adjustable drawcord, elasticated waistband, and on-seam pockets in the front with a patch pocket in back and two-inch ankle cuffs.

The organic terry cotton is GOTS and Fair Trade certified as well as Made Safe certified. Coyuchi makes the pants in India, where the cotton is grown, using a factory that recycles 90% of its wastewater. Dillon jogger pants are available in Aqua and Charcoal Heather and in sizes M, L, and XL.

Coyuchi packs the pants in a polybag made with 100% recycled content comprising pre-consumer waste.

Pact Essential Sweatpant

Leaf Score

Highlights: GOTS organic cotton pants made in cozy terry fabric in a Fair Trade factory using water-saving processes.

Pact’s Essential Sweatpant comprises 100% GOTS organic cotton and is made in a Fair Trade factory in India. It is available in six colors and sizes from Small to XXL. Pact’s process involves no toxic chemicals and uses 81% less water than conventional cotton. As a result, each pair of pants saves around 91.4 gallons of water.

The Essential Sweatpants have two front pockets and one back pocket and an elasticated waistband. They’re garment dyed for a vintage look and are made of cozy loop-back terry fabric, making them a little more hardwearing than thinner sweatpants.

You can machine wash these pants and dry them on low.

Rawganique DEBUSSY Elastic-Free 100% Organic Cotton Fleece Sweat Pants (Unisex)

Leaf Score

Highlights: Microplastic-free, 100% organic cotton fleece sweatpants with a drawstring waist and brushed fleece for extra coziness. Sweatshop-free and available in a wide range of unisex sizes. Great for winter!

Rawganique also offers these elastic-free, plastic-free, 100% organic cotton fleece sweatpants. The cotton fleece is brushed on both sides for the ultimate soft feel and warmth. The pants are aTop of Formvailable in Men’s XS to Women’s 3XL and in two colors, Natural and Rainforest Charcoal.

These pants are a great choice if you’re chemically sensitive or averse to elasticated waistbands. And because they’re totally natural, you don’t have to worry about microplastic pollution. Instead, the pants will fully biodegrade at end of life.

You can wash the pants on a gentle cycle and lay flat to dry. Fluff up the fleece with a quick tumble on low after rack or line drying. Some pilling and linting may occur, so it’s best to wash organic fleece separately from other clothes and on a low delicate cycle. Expect around 5% shrinkage in length with the first wash.

Rawganique notes that these pants are very popular, so sizes and styles run out frequently. Keep checking back as the company works with the Rawganique Atelier in Europe to replenish its stock as fast as it can!

5

Toad&Co Unisex Epiq Jogger

Leaf Score

Highlights: Hemp and organic cotton unisex jogger in a wide range of sizes and colors, with elasticated ankle cuffs for a cozy, comfortable fit.

Toad&Co produces a decent range of sustainable men’s clothing, including these sweatpants made with 45% organic cotton and 55% hemp. The sweatpants are technically unisex and are available in five colors and sizes XXS to XXL. Shop your normal size if you’re male or down a size if you’re female. The inseam is 29 inches, for a cropped look.

These joggers have an encased elastic waistband, rib cuffs, and a bit more heft to regular sweatpants. They’re a great choice for more social lounging, over full-on sloppy sweatpants. The hemp and cotton is moisture-wicking and offers odor control, and the joggers have a vintage look and feel.

I also love that the company’s website lists local retailers for every item. This makes it so much easier to shop locally and minimize each order’s carbon footprint by condensing shipments to a single location.

6

Patagonia Lightweight Synchilla Snap-T Fleece Pants

Leaf Score

Highlights: Super cozy but lightweight fleece pants made from 100% recycled polyester, with integrated belt buckle, two hand pockets, and one snap back pocket.

Patagonia’s Lightweight Synchilla Snap-T Fleece pants are a great option for really cozy sweatpants during cooler months. These pants are made in Nicaragua in a Fair Trade Certified factory. They comprise 7.9-oz 100% recycled Lightweight Synchilla® Fleece that is anti-pilling, warm, soft, and durable.

The pants have two on-seam handwarmer pockets and a rear Snap-T™ pocket, an elasticized waistband and integrated buckle belt. The gusseted crotch allows for good flexibility and movement.

7

Rawganique AUSTIN Elastic-Free 100% Organic Cotton Jammy Jogger Sweatpants

Leaf Score

Highlights: Elastic-free, drawstring waist jogger sweatpants made in the US using US-grown organic cotton.

Rawganique’s Jammy Jogger Sweatpants are made in the US from 100% organic cotton grown in the US. The company has been making these sweatpants since 1997 and they remain very popular, so if your size is out of stock, check back regularly. Rawganique replenishes its stock often. Top of Form

The pants are available in sizes Small to XXL. You’ll find these sweatpants are light but also cozy thanks to the French terry fabric on the inside and the jersey knit on the outside. These pocket-free pants are great for Tai Chi and yoga. Or use them as loungewear or sleepwear. They’re not super warm though, so don’t rely on them as winterwear.

Because the pants are elastic-free, you’ll want to draw the strings tight and then redistribute the fabric folds around the quite large waistband. Bear in mind that the organic cotton is unbleached and undyed, with natural speckles and a rustic look.

Also, the design means that the crotch sits much lower than fitted pants, so the inseam measurement is smaller than your regular size. The small size has a max waist of 36 inches and an inseam of 26 inches, while the XXL has a max waist of 44 inches and an inseam of 29.5 inches.

You can machine wash these organic cotton sweatpants on warm and tumble dry on a delicate setting.

8

Rawganique Elastic-Free 100% Organic Hemp Cargo Pants (Unisex)

Leaf Score

Highlights: More structured but still loungewear-worthy hemp cargo pants made without elastic and with natural nut button and a zipper fly.

If you’re looking for slightly more structured sweatpants without elastic, Rawganique offers these 100% organic hemp cargo pants. They have natural coconut or tagua nut buttons (an indigenous cash-crop from the Amazon that helps prevent deforestation), a zipper fly, and drawstrings, are totally plastic- and elastic-free, and come in both a slimmer fit and a roomy fit. The pants are available in Black, Indigo, Natural, Forest Green, and Earth Brown colors, and from XS to XL.

These Hemp Cargo Pants were the product that launched Rawganique in 1997 and the design has endured, thanks to the fabric’s natural drape, breathability, and sustainability. Though they offer all the comfort of sweatpants, they look more tailored because of the way hemp drapes and thanks to the cargo side pockets. This means you can easily transition from lounging or doing yoga to running errands or even heading to work without having to change!

Rawganique makes these hemp pants in-house in its European atelier using 100% organically grown European hemp. They are sweatshop-free, chemical-free, and eco-dyed Black, Forest Green, Earth Brown, and Indigo.

Because the waistband is elastic-free, it can accommodate a large array of waist sizes. You can wear the pants as tight or as loose as you wish and as low or high on the hips as you want.

Rawganique notes that there’s some variation in inseam length and that the pants are typically worn low. As such, if you want a longer or shorter inseam, you can make a note with your order and Rawganique will do its best to find a pair to meet your needs.

You can machine wash these pants in cold water and hand dry them. If necessary, you can dry these pants on low, though they’ll last longer if line dried.
