What we like about the PACT Quilted Comforter

PACT’s Quilted Comforter is a strong contender for my favorite new bedding item of 2023. It has been a dream to sleep under from summer through to fall and I can see it layering well right through winter where I live in the Pacific Northwest.

PACT makes this comforter using GOTS organic cotton fill and an organic cotton sateen cover.

It has a nice weight to it but isn’t overly heavy. The weight helps to keep the comforter in place and gives it a relaxed drape that can work with both modern and traditional bedroom aesthetics.

Unlike many organic comforters, the PACT Quilted Comforter is available in five colors and three sizes. I chose the Ochre and it’s a rich burnt orange color that works really well with a wide range of other bedding.

Naturally, it pairs best with PACT’s fantastic organic cotton sheets, but I’ve also found that this color pairs nicely with grey, green, and blue tones and both hemp and linen textures.

Don't confuse your comforters!

PACT makes a Quilted Comforter and a Crinkle Comforter using organic cotton.

While I love the Quilted Comforter, I’m wary of the crinkle design. This appears to be much less robust than the quilted option and isn’t machine washable.

Downsides of the PACT Quilted Comforter

There’s not much to criticize about the PACT Quilted Comforter.

If I had to pick something, it’s the packaging and the size.

I got a Queen size comforter for my Queen size bed and even after washing the comforter (as per PACT instructions), I feel like it’s still on the large side.

That said, my mattress isn’t especially deep (10-inch), and I’m not using this comforter over top of a lofty duvet.

If your bed set-up is taller than mine, this comforter likely won’t touch the floor. But if you have a low-profile platform bed, expect considerable overhang with this comforter.

Why does the overhang bother me? Mostly because I have a dog and toddler at home, which means I’m more conscious of how this comforter can pick up dog hair, dust, and dirt from the floor and require more regular laundering.

Packaging

My PACT comforter arrived in a simple, unbranded cardboard box with my other PACT bedding. Unfortunately, while the PACT sheets were free of single-use plastics and wrapped instead in recyclable paper packaging, the comforter came in a giant plastic bag.

I appreciate that PACT doesn’t include an unnecessary ‘reusable’ branded fabric bag for the comforter, as is the style for many brands these days, but I would appreciate tissue paper wrapping or a simple cardboard box instead of the plastic.

Sustainability at PACT

PACT makes this comforter and its other products in a Fair Trade factory using GOTS certified organic cotton. In comparison to a conventional cotton comforter, the PACT organic cotton comforter saves 466 gallons of water. It’s also free from:

  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Heavy metals
  • Chlorine bleach and dioxins
  • Synthetic materials
  • Other hazardous chemicals.

In general, PACT uses recyclable paper and card packaging that is FSC certified, with no single-use packaging. The comforter is an exception to this rule, unfortunately, but you can contact the company and ask to have your comforter shipped without plastic.

Shipping is also carbon neutral, as are all PACT operations and products.

PACT also offers a Give Back Box program. This lets you reuse your PACT box or other cardboard box to ship gently used clothing to charities for recirculation. You can download and print a free shipping label from the PACT website and get a tax deduction for your donated clothing.

Caring for the PACT Quilted Comforter

The PACT Comforter is machine washable with cold water and you can also dry it in the machine on low. Given that I have a toddler and an old dog, this easy care and maintenance is very much appreciated.

Note that PACT recommends you wash your new comforter before first use. This will help soften it even further (it’s already very soft out of the bag/box) and to shrink it a little for a good fit if you’re using a duvet cover.

Final thoughts on the PACT Quilted Comforter

Easy returns

PACT offers a 60-Day return policy, no questions asked. This is in stark contrast to most bedding companies that either don’t allow returns or only do so for unopened products.

All in all, I absolutely love my PACT organic cotton Quilted Comforter. It feels so luxurious, thanks to that smooth and soft sateen cover. It’s also held up well to dog claws and other insults, and it drapes beautifully, has a nice weight to it, and instantly enhanced the look and feel of my bedroom.

If the PACT colors aren’t for you, but you want a lighter cotton comforter, consider the Coyuchi Diamond Stitch Comforter (see our review). For a weightier option that’s more cotton duvet insert than comforter, check out our review of Rawganique’s Cotton Comforter.
