Why we like the Rawganique Organic Cotton Comforter
Rawganique’s fantastic handmade organic cotton comforter might just be your perfect sleep partner all year round.
This comforter is made in the U.S. from U.S.-grown cotton, making it more sustainable and eco-friendly than pretty much every other cotton comforter out there.
There’s only organic cotton here, though. This includes the organic cotton cover, wadding, and the thread used to sew it together.
The fill is a single layer of hand-carded organic cotton batting quilted to a soft, smooth, organic cotton fabric casing. It is warm, cozy, and breathable and easy to pair with a blanket for especially cold nights.
This comforter doesn’t have any corner loops or ties. So, while it may appear to be more a duvet insert than standalone comforter, it might move around a little in an oversize duvet cover.
Rawganique deliberately makes its Organic Cotton Comforter to fit snugly in a duvet cover. This helps prevent it from moving around and bunching and gives it more loft overall.
Downsides to the Rawganique Organic Cotton Comforter
This comforter is a little pricier than Coyuchi’s similar cotton comforter but it is made in the U.S. using American cotton. Comforters are mostly made to order, meaning you may have to wait 7-10 days for yours to ship.
If you’re a stickler for certifications, you won’t like that this comforter doesn’t carry a GOTS or Made Safe seal, unlike Coyuchi.
One other thing to note is that this comforter is quite thick and heavy. It may feel too weighty for some sleepers and can be too cozy too. The Toddler size comforter weighs 4.5 lbs., for instance, while the Cali King size weighs almost 14 lbs. (and costs more than $600)!
Unfortunately, the bulk and weight means you can’t wash this organic cotton duvet in a machine. Instead, you’ll want to air out your duvet for a few hours every month or so.
Rawganique typically ships products plastic-free.
However, because this family-run business got its start making products for those with multiple chemical sensitivities, Rawganique staff know that some folks prefer sealed plastic packaging. This can help to minimize potential contamination while a comforter is in transit.
For packaging requests, contact Rawganique when making your order. The company will do its best to accommodate your needs.
Sustainability at Rawganique
Rawganique doesn’t bleach, fumigate, or otherwise treat the cotton with chemicals. That means it actually smells like cotton upon arrival. The smell isn’t harmful and dissipates after airing out the comforter.
Rawganique is one of the few companies we recommend at Leaf Score that doesn’t carry formally recognized certifications for its products. While certifications are helpful, we appreciate Rawganique’s consistently ethical stance on fair working conditions, material sourcing, and non-toxic manufacturing practices.
Rawganique is well known for making exceptionally high quality products without any hazardous chemicals. This means your duvet or comforter won’t expose you to pesticides, PVC, BPA, formaldehyde, dioxins, or heavy metals. The company’s products are also often vegan, are not tested on animals, and are free of GMOs.
Rawganique has been producing quality products for more than 20 years without:
- Toxic chemicals
- Pesticides
- PVC, BPA, or phthalates
- Formaldehyde
- Dioxins
- Heavy metals
- Animal testing
- GMOs.
Rawganique also deliberately stays a small-scale organization, so as to maintain control of its supply chains and ensure everything meets its rigorous standards for sustainability and being truly non-toxic.
Final thoughts on the Rawganique Organic Cotton Comforter
If you prefer a fully cotton comforter but want something extra cozy and thick, the Rawganique Organic Cotton Comforter is a top choice. For lighter weight options that are easier to layer for year-round use, consider the PACT Organic Cotton Comforter instead [Staff tested and loved!], or Coyuchi’s Diamond Quilted Cotton Comforter.
