What we like
The iSpring WGB32B system is certified to meet NSF/ANSI Standards 42 and 53 for drinking water treatment units. The iSpring whole house system removes up to 99% of chlorine and up to 95% of other contaminants, including:
- Sediment
- Chloramines
- Heavy metals
- Other contaminants that create color, foul tastes and odors (as tested by SGS, 2018).
This system is certified by the NSF to remove any particles larger than 5 microns.
The iSpring WGB32B Whole House Water Filtration System has a 100,000-gallon capacity activated carbon filter that should cover a household of four for a year, depending on water consumption.
Because this product does not carry a Prop 65 warning, the internal metal fittings are most likely lead-free.
What’s in the box?
The package includes:
- A black metal bracket
- Three big blue housings with caps
- Three filter cartridges
- A 4.5 inch housing wrench.
Installation and performance
This system is equipped with three stage filtration:
- The first stage high capacity polypropylene sediment filter achieves filtration down to 5 microns
- The second and third stage CTO Carbon Block filters use high quality coconut shell carbon for maximum filtration efficiency and filter life.
Both are tested by independent third-party to meet NSF/ANSI Standards.
You install this system at the main water supply to your home. As such, if your water is especially hard, with a high TDS count (more than 700 PPM), you’ll want to install a water softener or RO system before water reaches this unit. This will help improve the performance of the iSpring and extend the filter life.
The iSpring allows up to 15 gallons of water to filter through the system every minute. Unlike some filters, the iSpring won’t cause a sharp reduction in water pressure. For most households, a flow rate of 6 GPM is fine, though.
Other options to consider
If you are on well water or have unusual contaminants in your municipal water supply, consider the WGB32BM (View Price on Walmart) instead of the WGB32B.
The WGB32BM has an additional FM25B iron and manganese removal filter that efficiently reduces iron (3.0 -> 0.01 ppm) and manganese (1.0 -> 0.01 ppm). It also lasts up to three times longer than greensand (in the WGB32B) because the catalytic media is not being consumed in the process. This is a good option to protect household appliances such as the dishwasher and washing machine from mineral damage.
iSpring vs. Aquasana
If you’re a stickler for certifications and want a complete home water filtration system, go for the iSpring WGB32B or WGB32BM and pair it with a certified UV system (and water softener if needed). The less expensive WGB32B will likely be sufficient if your water is pre-treated. If you’re on well water, the WG32BM is likely the better choice, paired with an antimicrobial UV filter.
Both iSpring systems and the Aquasana deliver excellent performance with great customer support. The Aquasana Rhino 10-Year system used to lack certifications for the unit as a whole but now has the same certifications as the iSpring and more. As such, if you’re keen to cover all your bases in a single system that is designed to work together, the Aquasana is your best option (View Price on Aquasana, see our review).
