Hook & Loom

UNCLAIMED Claim this listing

Hook & Loom rugs are made using 100% GOTS Organic cotton. The brand claims the rugs are made without chemicals, VOCs, latex, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, mordants, and defoliants, and we believe them. However, there is a lack of certifications and documentation to back up those claims. We would like to see more documentation from Hook & Loom to verify many of their eco-claims, and make the move to Fair Trade Certification to offer more transparency into how these rugs are manufactured.

Editorial

Hook and Loom GOTS Organic Cotton rugs are an option for the eco-friendly home, but Under the Nile is still top in class for their eco-friendly recycled cotton rugs because they control the entire manufacturing process, helping to divert scrap material from their own clothing line to make their signature rugs. This means you can be sure Under the Nile’s rugs are made with cotton that has never been treated with toxic chemicals. Under the Nile rugs are also Fair Trade certified in addition to being made with GOTS certified organic cotton.

Hook and Loom Organic Cotton Rugs are pure organic cotton rugs handcrafted in India that according to the brand are made without dyes, chemicals, VOCs, latex, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, mordants, or defoliants.

Their new rug collection includes thinner, more affordable rugs that can easily fit in a washing machine and under swinging doors as well as thicker flat weave rugs for when you want a bit of extra cushion. Based on our tests, the thin rugs are very thin and even with a rug pad are difficult to get to stay in place.

A Hook & Loom sample wool rug. The rugs are lightweight and difficult to get to stay on the floor, even with a pad.

If washing and drying in a machine, expect some initial shrinkage (estimates are given in the care instructions). There shouldn’t be any further shrinkage on subsequent washes. If your rug is too big for your home washing machine, you may be able to use a commercial machine, at least for some of the rug sizes.

Hook and Loom is based in Massachusetts and makes rugs in carefully selected workshops in India, free from child labor (not independently verified by LeafScore). Their rugs are shipped with minimal packaging to reduce environmental impact and are a great choice for the eco-friendly home.

Rugs start at $32 for a 2′ x 3′ thinner cotton rug and range up to about $880 for a thicker, flatweave rug measuring 10′ x 14′. There are currently eight designs in the organic collection, including diamond, zigzag, boho, and chunky options.
