Zimah Collection is a lesser-known brand making nail polish that is vegan, cruelty-free, alcohol-free, Halal, and wudu-friendly. In fact, this may be the only nail polish that has been formulated specifically with vegans and Muslims in mind!

Overview

Made in the USA, this nail polish is not tested on animals and is essentially 10-free as it contains no: formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, DBP (dibutyl phthalate), camphor, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, parabens and Acetone.

The ingredients panel reads: Butyl Acetate, Ethyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Adipic Acid/Neopentyl Glycol/Trimellitic Anhydride Copolymer, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Polyethylmethacrylate, Sucrose Acetate Isobutyrate, Stearalkonium Bentonite, Diacetone Alcohol, Silica, Benzophenone-1, Trimethylpentanediyl Dibenzoate, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, N-Butyl Alcohol, Phosphoric Acid.

Some colors may also contain: Mica, Bis(Glycidoxyphenyl)Propane/ Bisaminomethylnorbornane Copolymer, Aluminum Hydroxide, Tin Oxide, Titanium Dioxide/CI 77891, Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide/CI 77510, Iron Oxide/CI 77499, Black Iron Oxide/CI 77499, Red Iron Oxide/CI 77499, Ultramarines/CI 77007, Aluminum Powder/CI 77000, EXT Violet 2/CI 60730, Red 28/CI 45410, Yellow 5 Lake/ CI 19140, Red 34 Lake/CI 15880, Red 6 Lake/CI 15850, Red 7 Lake/CI 15850.

In summary, this polish contains a few worrisome ingredients, including benzophenone-1, Trimethylpentanediyl Dibenzoate, some FD&C colors, and other chemicals. So, why have I included it here?

In short, because this polish is still far better than most on the market in terms of toxic chemicals, and it is made from entirely plant-based materials in a factor that is certified by ISWA. This polish is also wudu-friendly. Wudu is an Islamic tradition whereby Muslims wash parts of the body using water before prayer. To follow the wudu process properly, air and water should be able to permeate the skin and nails. Zimah have deliberately designed their polish and had it tested at a laboratory to ensure that the polish is permeable even after two coats are applied. Beyond that, the permeability decreases, and it may no longer be wudu-appropriate.
