Overview
The 300 Thread Count Organic Sheet Set (View Price on Amazon) is made with organic cotton grown in India, without any pesticides, herbicides, or insecticides. The cotton is ginned, spun and woven with no harmful substances and is naturally dyed without any toxic chemicals. The cotton is certified organic via Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The sheets use silky single-ply yarns for smooth softness and are made with a tighter one-pick weave for superior strength.
These sheets are available in Ocean Blue, Navy Blue, Silver, Dark Purple, Lavender, Sand, Ivory, Natural, White, and Pistachio Green. They range in price from around $60.99 to $75.99 and most color options are available in the following sizes:
California King – Flat Sheet 66″x 96″, Fitted Sheet 72″x 84″, Pillowcase 20″x 40″
King – Flat Sheet 108″x 102″, Fitted Sheet 78″x 80″, Pillowcase 20″x 40″
Queen – Flat Sheet 92″x 104″, Fitted Sheet 60″x 80″, Pillowcase 20″x 30″
Full – Flat Sheet 81″x 96″, Fitted Sheet 54″x 75″, Pillowcase 20″x 30″
Twin- Flat Sheet 66″x 96″, Fitted Sheet 39″x 75″, Pillowcase 20″x 30″
Twin XL – Flat Sheet 66″x 101″, Fitted Sheet 39″x 80″, Pillowcase 20″x 30″
The 800 Thread Count Sheets are also made with GOTS certified organic cotton and are available in white only to fit Queen, Full, King, and Twin size mattresses up to 13.5″ deep. Again, the cotton comes from organic farms and co-ops in India and is grown without any GMOs, pesticides, herbicides, or insecticides.
Whisper Organics even package their sheets in a sustainable, eco-friendly, reusable soft, organic cotton pouch, instead of toxic plastic packaging.
These sheets are machine washable on the gentle or delicate cycle with like colors, with cold water and a natural, plant-based laundry detergent. They should be line dried or dried on a low dryer setting and removed promptly. Wool dryer balls help to naturally soften cotton and reduce drying time. As I own these sheets myself (the 300 Thread Count Sheet Set in Natural), I can confirm that they look and feel great, fit perfectly, have proven durable over several washes and have shown no sign of shrinking. They were nicely packaged and in perfect condition and I’m considering buying their matching duvet cover and a whole second set for the guestroom! They also get softer with every wash, but if you’re a stickler for smooth sheets, you may feel the need to iron these as they can be a little wrinkly (unless you have the luxury of line drying – roll on summer!).
There’s not much information on Organic Whispers as a company, and they seem relatively new to the market with a limited product range. So, while they currently only sell eco-friendly bedding made with GOTS cotton, it’s hard to tell if they go the extra mile for eco-friendliness and have, say, a serious waste reduction and recycling program in place at their factory.
All the company tells us is that they are ‘a family owned business serving ecologically conscious customers’. They’re based in New York.
Whisper Organics vs. Coyuchi vs. Rawganique
Whisper Organics make no-nonsense bedding at an affordable price using GOTS certified organic cotton. Other than that, there’s not a lot to say about this small family company. Unlike Coyuchi, they don’t have a long track record of dedication to environmental sustainability and product safety. But, like Coyuchi, they do make their products using cotton grown on organic farms and co-ops in India (Coyuchi also make some products in Portugal).
Whisper Organics package their sheets in a sustainable organic cotton bag, the sheets get softer with every wash (in my experience) and they have a 90-day satisfaction guaranteed return policy, unlike PlushBeds who won’t let you return the product once opened. That said, PlushBeds use U.S.-grown organic cotton and manufacture their sheets in the U.S., which is nice.
So, if you’re looking to buy organic cotton sheets from an all-American company, PlushBeds are a great choice. Their sheet set offers excellent quality and organic certification, comes in sustainable packaging, and is free from dyes or chemicals. Coyuchi and Rawganique offer similar or higher quality products with more variety and are arguably a tad more invested in sustainability (offering only eco-friendly products), while Savvy Rest offer a similar sheet set and are more involved in charitable community projects. Sol Organics also have Fair Trade certification in addition to GOTS and Oeko-Tex 100, which lends them more eco-credentials than Whisper Organics. However, Sol Organics and the others are a little more expensive than Whisper Organics.
