- Safe and non-toxic
- No return policy
The kapok pillow case is hand-washable, and the pillow is as soft as down but animal-friendly, making it suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Like Avocado, Savvy Rest like to overstuff their pillows, meaning that you can remove and save the fill to add back later if the loft settles over time. Savvy Rest Kapok Pillows are available in Standard, Queen, and King sizes ranging from $109-$139:
The pillow dimensions are as follows:
Standard: Length 24″, Width 16″
Queen: Length 28″, Width 16″
King: Length 34″, Width 16″
Savvy Rest do not accept returns on pillows, claiming that this would require them to spray their products with chemicals, so they could resell them. Some other companies donate returned products, so it’s a shame Savvy Rest don’t have a similar policy. That said, Savvy Rest do donate new pillows through their Safe Sleep Pillows Program. This program works to donate new pillows for women and children who arrive at domestic violence shelters across the US. When the new arrivals at these emergency shelters move on to find more permanent housing, they can take their new Savvy Rest pillow with them.

Savvy Rest are also employee owned (as of 2012), meaning that staff are more invested in the company’s growth and in customer satisfaction. Employee owned companies tend to create a better experience for employees and for customers.
Savvy Rest use certified organic cotton for their pillow cases. This cotton is free from pesticides, herbicides, and toxic finishing chemicals, as certified by GOTS. They are also a certified B Corporation, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and good working conditions, and they donate a portion of profits to American Forests, the oldest nonprofit conservation organization in the US, which helps help restore and maintain threatened forest ecosystems across the country and around the globe. Savvy Rest is also a member of the Carbon Fund, through which they support reforestation along the Mississippi River, a vital habitat for migratory birds. Reforestation is a key part of efforts to mitigate climate change.
Savvy Rest Organic Kapok Body Pillow
The Savvy Rest Organic Kapok Body Pillow is ideal for pregnancy.
The kapok body pillow is deliberately overstuffed and has a zippered case, so you can remove stuffing and add it back as needed. The unbleached, naturally-colored organic cotton casing has a soft flannel finish, and a fitted organic sateen pillowcase is also provided. These can both be handwashed in cold water and line dried as needed.
Savvy Rest vs. Avocado vs. Rawganique
Kapok is becoming a popular soft filling for pillows, which means that some companies are adding kapok pillows to their otherwise problematic product ranges. Some contain their kapok pillows in conventionally grown cotton or synthetic fabrics, and few are as committed to social enterprise as Savvy Rest.
The only real competition for Savvy Rest’s Kapok Pillows are Avocado’s combination natural latex and kapok pillow (View Price on Avocado) and Rawganique’s Wild-Harvested Kapok pillow. If you’re particularly concerned about third-party certifications, go for Savvy Rest or Avocado. If these don’t matter much and you’re happy to trust a long-established smaller company with a demonstrated commitment to non-toxic, cruelty-free, sustainable and safe products at a slightly lower price, Rawganique may be right for you.
Savvy Rest are a bigger company than its two rivals in this category. They are also a certified B Corp, carry GOTS and Greenguard certification, are employee-owned and give back through charitable enterprise in the community. Savvy Rest’s pillows are more expensive, however, and do not offer as many options for loft across the three sizes as Rawganique, nor do they offer refill packs like Avocado.
That said, Avocado don’t offer a kapok-only pillow. Instead, their kapok pillows are filled with a combination of kapok and natural shredded latex pillows in organic cotton casing. Their pillows are a little smaller than those of Rawganique and Savvy Rest, but they like to overstuff their pillows, meaning you’ll likely have a lot of extra filling to play with. They also offer those handy refill packs and are a committed eco-friendly company who participate in social programs and are Greenguard Gold Certified. Their kapok pillows are also certified vegan, Eco-Institut certified, made in California, and are shipped in a carbon-neutral fashion.
