Rawganique’s Organic Shredded Natural Rubber Latex Bed Pillow is an impressive supportive pillow ideal for back and side sleepers. The shredded rubber fill provides excellent air circulation to help your stay cool while you sleep, and provides soft, resilient support for the head and neck. This is not a contour pillow (which has a slightly lower central area to help cradle your head), so it’s best suited to side sleepers or back sleepers who like a little more loft.

Overview
This pillow is encased in USDA-certified organic cotton and is resistant to dust mites. It is handmade in the USA and is available in Travel, Standard, Queen, and King sizes:
Travel 12″x16″ / 0.8 lbs.
Standard 20″x26″ / 4.5 lbs.
Queen 20″x30″ / 6 lbs.
King 20″x36″ / 7.5 lbs.
The pillow is available in a zippered or non-zippered version. We would recommend getting the zippered version, so you have the option of easily customizing how much fill is in the pillow. If you go for the metal-free pillow without the zipper, you can still remove or add back fill as needed, you’ll just have to pick out the seam and re-sew after you’re done.
The whole pillow is machine-washable, chemical-free, and is made in the USA without sweatshop labor. Rawganique say that with proper care, this pillow could last 20 years or more, making it an excellent sustainable option. The natural Dunlop rubber that goes into this pillow is, according to Rawganique, “collected between 5-9 in the morning, cooked by noon, and processed with foaming and rinsing agent via the natural Dunlop method”. It is rinsed 4 times to remove rubber milk proteins, resulting in a natural rubber that has very low allergenicity or smell. The latex sheets used to form these pillows are manufactured where the rubber sap is harvested, which helps to avoid the need for chemicals and also helps support the local economy in less prosperous countries. These latex sheets are then shipped to the US to be covered with organic cotton cases.
Rawganique was founded in 1997 by off-grid homesteaders on Denman Island off the west coast of Canada. They have deliberately stayed small-scale over the last 20 years so as to preserve the integrity of their eco-friendly efforts. The company handcrafts products made with organic cotton, linen, and hemp, and maintains control of the purity and sustainability of their products by growing, weaving, knitting, and sewing most of them right on their homestead. The founders describe themselves as ‘chemically sensitive people’ who use only their own products because they can guarantee their purity.
Rawganique add that ‘vegan’ stamp to their products because they can guarantee ‘Zero animal testing. Zero animal cruelty. Zero slave labor. Zero sweatshop. We never have to test on animals because our organic products come from perfect natural fibers and can’t harm any animal or human!’
Rawganique vs. Savvy Rest vs. Avocado
The regular Rawganique shredded latex pillow is eco-friendly, non-toxic, long-lasting and offers excellent value for money. It’s a great choice for side sleepers and may work for some back sleepers who like more loft. If you’re a combination sleeper, the Rawganique Contour pillow may be a better option, however, as it carries all the same eco-credentials but has a lower profile center (View Price on Rawganique). The Dunlop rubber used in Rawganique’s pillows is a heavier, firmer, rubber than the Talalay rubber used in some Savvy Rest latex pillows and may have slightly less of a rubber smell and lower allergenicity, although both are excellent choices. Savvy Rest’s Dunlop latex pillows are formed pillows, rather than filled with shreds, which means they are less easily customized to give you the perfect loft for a perfect sleep (View Prices on Savvy Rest).
Avocado’s Green Pillow (filled with kapok and latex shreds) is a better option for stomach sleepers or smaller side or back sleepers looking for a customizable latex pillow with a little extra softness (View Price on Avocado). Organic Textiles Slim Latex Pillow is also a good option for stomach sleepers, with a loft of just 3.25”.
CocoMat also offer latex pillows with excellent neck support and sound eco-credentials, including heavy duty, central seam and linear pocket models featuring down and feathers that may be the ideal match for folks who have struggled to find their perfect pillow over the years.
Rawganique also offer the Travel size, unlike Savvy Rest.
