Overview

These razors are more environmentally friendly than the average disposable razor because they are made entirely out of recycled plastic from yogurt cups (no. 5, polypropylene plastics). The razors are BPA-free and you can recycle the handle through the company’s Gimme 5 program (with drop-boxes at many Wholefoods locations across the US). As far as we can tell, this is the only program of its kind in the USA.

Preserve Products’ razors feature disposable blades with lubricating strips that contain aloe vera and vitamin E oil and are vegan-friendly (the company has a strict no animal testing policy). The Preserve Razor Triple Blades have a titanium coating to reduce drag and extend blade life. To replace the blade, squeeze the arms, pop off the blade cartridge and press in a new blade.

The razor handle is an innovative one-piece design that helps reduce resources consumed in manufacturing. The handle is ergonomic with contours and grip to support control and safe use. Preserve even care about their packaging, which is made from renewable wood sources and can be reused as a travel case.

Preserve vs. Safety Razors

Preserve have no competition in this area as they appear to be the only company manufacturing disposable razors using recycled plastics and supporting follow-on recycling and other environmental actions.

For truly eco-friendly shaving, your best option is a safety razor that will last for life. When disposable razors are a must, however, Preserve are your best option by far.
