Piggy Paint are a popular brand for kid-safe nail polish, as they make 7-free polish that is vegan and cruelty-free. This polish was, as with so many others, created by a mom looking for a safe polish for her daughter. As such, these water-based polishes contain no: formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), or formaldehyde resin. It is mostly odor-free and dries quite quickly and lasts well, but these are not FD&C color-free.

Overview

Piggy Paint polishes are made of water, acrylates copolymer, and neem oil, with various colorants (depending on shade), including  Red 34 Lake, ultramarines, iron oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, red 28, yellow 10, violet 2, zinc sulfide/copper, copper flake, orange 5, and red 22.

It would be nice to see Piggy Paint switch to mineral colorants only and ditch those FD&C colors, especially violet 2, which has been linked to organ system toxicity. Still, you can probably avoid this by choosing your color carefully.

Piggy Paint recommend blow-drying freshly painted nails on a low heat setting for a minute to help prevent chipping. They also offer a topcoat (View Price on Amazon) and base coat/sealer (View Price on Amazon), plus a nail polish remover that works quickly on all polishes, especially Piggy Paint Nail Polish. It contains none of the harmful solvents that are found in traditional nail polish removers, plus it has added Aloe vera and vitamin E, which supplement the natural oils that protect nails and cuticles.

Unlike many other so-called non-toxic nail polishes, which are typically just 10 mL or less, Piggy Paint offer full sized (15 mL) bottles for around $8, making them the same size as conventional polish bottles. Piggy Paint is also more affordable than many other brands and offer a sampler trio for less than $20 (View Price on Walmart), making it less expensive than a single bottle from many other brands.
