Overview
Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate) can quickly neutralize chlorine, so, although this system doesn’t seem to have any specific certifications, its mechanism is scientifically sound, at least for chlorine.
I’ve included this model here, despite its lack of certification chops, because it is one of the few handheld options available. Unfortunately, the cartridges on the handheld system need to be changed very 30-45 days and the wall-mounted version needs changing every 60-90 days.
OPUS vs. Culligan and Raindrops
If you’re going for a wall-mounted filter, I’d strongly suggest choosing the Raindrops system or the Culligan over the OPUS. These carry proper certifications and their cartridges typically last a lot longer. But, if you’re looking for a handheld filter that has a little extra pizzazz and at least relies on a scientifically proven mechanism for neutralizing chlorine, the OPUS is a good option.
