Coyuchi vs. Organic Weave
Coyuchi have been producing top-quality organic cotton rugs for more than 20 years and arguably have more robust eco-certifications than Organic Weave. Their rugs are sourced from European manufacturers who follow the REACH chemical standards aimed at reducing chemical risk to human health and the environment. They also adhere to the Restricted Substances List (RSL) of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and try to source from as many Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)-certified suppliers as possible. They also employ a zero-waste water recycling method, have Fair Trade certification and are a member of 1% for the Planet. They use environmentally friendly packaging and shipping methods and are also involved in the Fibershed program which supports sustainability and social enterprise within the textile sector.
However, while picking a top choice is difficult in this category, Organic Weave take first place. This is because they offer a much broader range of styles and sizes than Coyuchi who really only offer the two rugs listed here. Organic Weave have handtufted, handwoven, flatwoven, and wool and cotton shag rugs available in pretty much any color, shape, and style you can think of and offer custom options (including monogrammed rugs!) in case their current range doesn’t meet your needs.
Organic Weave only use GOTS certified organic wool and cotton, and FSC natural latex (where needed), they are GoodWeave certified to ensure no child labor is involved in the manufacture of their eco-friendly rugs, and they don’t use toxic chemicals in the manufacture of any of their products.
As for Bungalow Rose’s organic cotton rug, while this rug itself looks to be made with eco-friendly organic cotton, it is not GOTS certified, nor does it carry any other certifications. This may mean that the rug has been treated with chemicals you wouldn’t want in your home, and it is probably not a good choice for anyone with multiple chemical sensitivities.
