The best organic cotton bed sheets
Runner-up for best organic cotton bed sheets
Third choice for best organic cotton bed sheets
Best organic cotton jersey bed sheets
It’s a hard task but someone had to do it. To find the best eco-friendly bed sheets around, we spent hours sleeping on the job. We also spent many days and weeks poring over sustainability reports and checking that those green certifications were current and valid at the time of writing. No greenwashing here!
Our top picks for the best organic cotton bed sheets consider:
- How the cotton was grown
- How the cotton was processed and dyed
- The design and feel of the sheets and pillowcases
- Care and maintenance
- Durability and warranty
- Packaging and shipping
- Overall company sustainability.
For truly non-toxic bed sheets, it’s smart to think beyond the fibers and consider how sheets are sewn, dyed, packaged, and delivered. Sadly, natural fibers tend to have a harder time holding onto chemical dyes, meaning even cotton sheets can leach toxic azo dyes and other chemicals while in use, when washed, and in landfill at end of life.
You won’t find polyester or other synthetic materials among our choices, nor any sheets made with conventional cotton or toxic processing chemicals. And we strongly favor companies that use sustainable packaging and carbon neutral shipping, as well as zero-waste practices.
View our unique methodology here, where we lay out how voting with our dollars is just one way to protect the planet and fight climate change.
Conventional cotton is hugely problematic as it uses vast amounts of water to grow and process and is one of the largest contributors to pesticide use worldwide. Organic cotton, ideally regenerative organic cotton, hemp and linen are much less water intensive and are grown without the use of dangerous pesticides. Hemp in particular is a fantastic crop that actually helps to regenerate soil, requiring practically no irrigation or other inputs.

The Sol Organics sheet set comprises:
- 1 fitted sheet
- 1 flat sheet
- 2 pillowcases.
Sol Organics was established in 2010 with the aim of producing eco-friendly textiles using organic cotton while ensuring equality for all employees. They found an amazing factory in India that carried a raft of the most important green and social certifications, and they use 100% organic long-staple cotton, grown from non-GMO cottonseeds., with a commitment to better farming practices that reduce their carbon footprint, conserve and protect drinking water, and keep everyone safe from harmful chemicals.
We tested the Sol Organics Sateen Bed Sheets during a very cold winter in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where LeafScore is based. We were impressed with the softness, overall durability, and warmth. The Sol Organics sheets got softer as we washed them, and we found the sateen sheets were good enough for winter combined with a heavy wool comforter. We loved getting under the covers with the wind and snow blowing outside in the Tetons.
Sol Organics offers tons of options for sheets, including percale sheets and duvet cover sets. We highly recommend the following sheet sets:
- Hemmed Organic Sheets (View Price on Sol Organics)
- Pleated Organic Sheets (View Price on Sol Organics)
- Organic Duvet Cover Set: 1 Duvet Cover and 2 Shams (View Price on Sol Organics)
- Percale Duvet Cover Set: 1 Duvet Cover and 2 Shams (View Price on Sol Organics)

If you’re looking for (better than) hotel quality sateen sheets, check out PACT. Made using GOTS certified organic cotton in a Fair Trade Certified Factory, these sheets are shiny, smooth, and made my mother-in-law start calling our guestroom ‘the boudoir’.
The lightweight sateen is breathable even while being cozy, and thanks to a chemical-free ‘stone’ wash the sheets also feel buttery soft.
There are 9 color options for the sateen sheets, including some rich hues, all made with low-impact dyes. The sheets are machine washable and each set includes:
- 1 fitted sheet,
- 1 flat sheet
- 2 pillowcases,
- A reusable laundry bag.
Unlike the percale sheets, these aren’t sanforized. As such, PACT recommends that you pre-wash the sheets for a good fit from the start. The company also offers its Sweet Dreams Guarantee: a 60-day, no-questions-asked return policy.
I got a set of the PACT Sateen sheets for our guestroom and they’ve been a huge hit! So much so that I gave up my own bed for the night and gave these sheets a test run myself.
Because I’m such a huge fan of percale, I wasn’t sure if I’d like these sateen sheets. After one night, I’m a convert.
The PACT Sateen sheets feel so soft, smooth, and luxurious and are cozy without being sweaty. I’m a hot sleeper and these sheets were great to sleep in even on a relatively hot summer night.
The color (Raisin) is absolutely gorgeous. So rich and with no sign of fading even after several washes. They’re easy to care for, come in their own handy reusable bag with smart labeling, and would make a great bedding gift for friends and family. PACT also uses smart labeling to make bedding changes fast and easy.
PACT Full Cool Air Percale Sheet Set [Staff tested]
Highlights: Beautifully crisp and cool organic cotton percale sheets in 7 color options. Totally carbon neutral supply chain. GOTS and Fair Trade, with sustainable packaging.
- Fair Trade, GOTS, Carbon Neutral organic cotton sheets
- Crisp and cool percale that’s breathable and soft
- 7 color options
- Cali King size available
- No bundle available without the flat sheet
- A little pricey for larger sizes
At a glance:
- Sizes available: Twin, Full, Queen, King, Cali King
- Thread count: n/a
- Key certifications: Fair Trade Certified, GOTS, Carbon Neutral
- Price Range: $150-$240
For hot-sleepers like me, PACT’s percale sheets are bliss. These crisp and cool ultra-light organic percale sheets get softer with every wash and are great for summer sleeping or all year round if you run hot.
PACT double sanforizes the percale fabric (i.e., pre-shrinks it twice) before turning it into sheets. That makes for super soft sheets that won’t shrink more when you wash them. I haven’t noticed any shrinkage at all after several runs through the laundry.
The sheet set includes:
- 1 fitted sheet
- 1 flat sheet
- 2 pillowcases
- A reusable laundry bag.
PACT offers a Sweet Dreams Guarantee where you can return the sheets, no-questions-asked, within 60 days. Given how blissfully cool these sheets are though, I doubt the company gets many returns.
I now own two sets of PACT Cool Air percale sheets: one for our guestroom and one for us. Both sets are in Walnut, which was a bit of a mistake when it’s laundry day. The good news is that PACT labels everything really well, so it doesn’t take long to sort out which set goes on which bed (double/full or queen).
The percale sheets are cool, crisp, and smooth. They fit perfectly, look great (such rich color!), and haven’t faded, shrunk, or worn in several months.
As a hot sleeper, I appreciate that these sheets stay cool even on hot summer nights. They don’t feel ice cold though, so are also a great fit for my wife, who sleeps cool and likes things cozy.
As with all PACT sheets, these came in a reusable bag made with the same organic cotton material as the sheets. That means you can easily store the sheets in the conveniently labeled bag when not in use.

Brooklinen Organic Cotton Percale Sheets – 4-Piece Set [Staff tested]
Highlights: Soft, cozy, comfortable sheets with a rich color and made with garment-washed GOTS certified organic cotton. Affordable 4-piece set includes flat and fitted sheets and two pillowcases.
- Made with GOTS certified organic cotton
- Available in sizes up to Cali King
- Gorgeous colors!
- Percale weave for breathability
- Cool and somewhat crisp for summer sleeping
- Comes in reusable cotton bag (perfect size for a toddler pillow!)
- Packaged in plastic
- This is Brooklinen’s only line of organic bedding products
- Not as crisp and cool as Homebird percale!
At a glance:
- Sizes available: Full, Queen, King, Cali King
- Thread count: 300
- Key certifications: GOTS, OEKO-TEX
- Price Range: $219-$259
Brooklinen’s Percale Sheets are my second favorite summer find for 2023 (after Homebird). These sheets are cool and soft, though not quite as crisp and cool as Homebird’s. The colors are rich, the sheets are pre-shrunk, so no surprises after the first wash, and the 300 thread count makes these sheets light and breathable but also very durable.
Brooklinen’s Percale Sheet Set includes:
- 1 Flat Sheet
- 1 Fitted Sheet
- 2 Pillowcases.
Brooklinen also offers a Hardcore bedding bundle that also includes the duvet cover and two extra pillowcases to match your sheets.
Brooklinen uses reusable fabric bags for its sheet sets but also then smothers them in plastic and cardboard, which is rather wasteful and irritating.
Once out of the box, the sheets are clearly great quality. They look and feel amazing and I was very excited to sleep on them. It’s nice that they’re pre-washed and ready to go right away, though I gave them a quick rinse anyway.
The garment-washed sheets feel super soft and are cool and a little crisp. They’re not as crisp as Homebird’s percale, nor as cool, but still excellent for hot sleepers like me.
I really love the Marina Blue color and have repurposed the fabric bag as a pillowcase for my toddler’s latex pillow (view review here).
Brooklinen makes it easy to dress your bed by including easy to read labels on the fitted and flat sheets. The fitted sheets have a deep enough pocket to fit up to a 16-inch deep mattress and the 360 elastic is a nice touch too.

Boll & Branch is a luxury bedding brand and the world’s largest consumer of Organic Fair Trade Certified™ cotton. Established in 2013, Boll & Branch uses 100% organic cotton in all of its products and supports Fair Trade Certified™ suppliers and practices wherever possible.
Boll & Branch’s most popular product, the Solid Hemmed Sheet Set, has more than 11,000 reviews and an average of 4.8/5. This shows just how popular these sheets are, and for good reason.
The sheet set feels light and luxurious, and soft right out of the box, but gets softer with every wash as these sheets aren’t pre-shrunk or pre-washed. Expect some shrinkage but don’t worry: the company deliberately oversizes the sheets, so they’ll fit perfectly in a couple of washes.
The set comes with:
- 1 fitted sheet
- 1 flat shee
- 2 pillowcases
- A reusable laundry bag for storage.
These sheets are made with long-staple cotton, which makes the fabric softer, stronger, and more durable. Single-ply cotton means that the sheets are light and soft, and they are woven with a four-over, one-under design for a 300-Thread Count. The fitted sheets fit mattresses up to 17 inches deep.
Boll & Branch offer free ground shipping for U.S. customers and a full refund within 30 days if you’re not happy with your sheets.

Whisper Organics Sateen Sheets [Staff tested]
Highlights: Made with GOTS certified organic cotton and available undyed or dyed using non-toxic dyes. Super soft, but mine shrank considerably on first wash.
- Very affordable
- Wide range of sizes
- Good range of colors, all natural dyes
- GOTS certified
- Only sateen, flannel, or weave available
- 15-inch pocket not deep enough for some mattresses
- Considerable shrinkage on first few washes
At a glance:
- Sizes available: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cali King
- Thread count: 300, 500 for cotton
- Key certifications: GOTS Certified Organic
- Price Range: $99 – $145 per set
Whisper Organics is a small family business offering very affordable organic cotton sheets (including crib sheets), pillowcases, duvet covers, sheet sets, throws, robes, and more. Options for bed sheets include a 300 and 500 thread count sateen weave as well as flannel options (including a red plaid option!).
All of the products are made using certified organic cotton grown in India and Turkey and dyed using non-toxic natural dyes.
I’ve been sleeping on Whisper Organics cotton sheets for more than four years and love how they look and feel. The 300 thread count sheets are so soft and get softer with every wash. They’re smooth, cozy in winter, cool in summer, and it’s easier to sleep knowing there are no toxic chemicals touching my skin.
The Whisper Organics sheets have held up incredibly well over the years, with no tearing, loose threads, or any signs of wear and tear. My one complaint is that the sheets shrank considerably with the first wash. In fact, the standard/queen pillowcases became so small that they only fit my smallest pillows. And the queen-size fitted sheet and top sheet no longer fit my queen size mattress, meaning I now use them on our double/full bed instead.
Although the company appears to have changed its collections a little since my purchase, I’d still recommend you size up with Whisper Organics, especially if you have a deep or oversized mattress or pillows.
Always check the individual sheets for the GOTS label, otherwise, they’re not actually GOTS certified!
