I never thought I’d be so excited about sheets, but Homebird knocked it out of the park with its Organic Cotton Percale Sheet Set. These crisp and cool sheets are just sheer bliss, especially on hot summer nights.
I’ve slept on other percale sheets and can honestly say that Homebird’s are the crispiest (in a good way). There’s a positive snap-snap sound to these beauties, but while they look and sound crisp, don’t let that fool you into thinking they’re stiff and uncomfortable. Quite the opposite!
Homebird Percale Sheets at a glance
Percale is a great choice for summer sheets and Homebird offers some of the best percale sheets around. The 3-piece sheet set is available in Full, Queen, and King and starts at $132. It’s currently available in 9 colors.
The sheet set includes:
- 1 fitted sheet (with a deep pocket that fits a 16-inch mattress comfortably)
- 2 pillowcases with generous reverse envelope enclosure.
Homebird also sells flat sheets separately (view on Homebird).
These sheets have a 300 thread count (single-ply), which is great for percale as it means they’re top quality without compromising breathability. In fact, these sheets are exceptionally breathable and cooling (in my experience). Homebird’s percale sheets are also:
- Made with with 100% GOTS certified organic cotton
- Made with long-staple cotton for durability
- Ethically made in Fair Trade certified factories
- Luxurious, crisp and cool
- Soft and softer with every wash
- Available in 9 rich natural colors with a matte appearance (not shiny like sateen)
- Free of toxic chemicals.
Out of the box – Homebird’s sustainable packaging
Homebird ships sheets and other products in sustainable packaging with no single-use plastics. Instead of plastic wrap, the sheets come in reusable organic cotton bags.
Homebird includes super convenient labeling (queen size, etc.) on the reusable bags. This makes it easy to sort and store bedding and to keep your linen closet looking neat and attractive. I noticed a few reviewers who were big fans of this style of packaging because they ordered a ton of Homebird bedding for use in guesthouses. The labels help them find what they need for each guestroom quickly and easily.
Aside from appreciating the packaging, I also immediately noticed the crispness and overall quality of Homebird’s sheets. The percale set feels amazing right out of the box and, technically, the pre-washed sheets are ready to use. Even so, I gave them a quick rinse and line dried the sheets, following the care instructions carefully.
My experience with Homebird Organic Cotton Percale Sheets
After opening the box and touching these sheets, I was super excited to actually sleep on them. The quality was obvious immediately and as we were in the middle of a long stretch of hot weather with no let-up, the arrival of the percale sheets was perfect.
Homebird makes it really easy to identify and use the sheets, with a wide elastic on the fitted sheet and handy labels for the long and short sides.
The fitted sheet fit easily, with a little extra room as my mattress is slightly shorter, narrower, and shallower than many Queen size mattresses.
The Homebird flat sheet is also on the larger side, which is great for me as my wife tends to steal the bedding. For some folks, the length may be annoying, but if you like ‘hospital corners’ as my wife does, this is easy to tuck under and hide. Alternatively, you can use the excess length to fold over the top of a blanket or summer duvet.
Again, Homebird makes it really easy to identify the sheet itself, with easy size labels, and to find the long and short sides.
My one nitpick with the Homebird sheet set is that the pillowcases are a little too generous. While this is great for big pillows, it could cause problems with Standard pillows or smaller Queen size pillows. My Avocado Green Pillow has managed to squirm loose a few times, though I should note that the Green Pillow is slightly smaller than some Queen pillows.
If you have smaller pillows, you may find that these pillowcases run too big. Homebird doesn’t offer smaller than a 21 x 30 inch pillowcase, alas.
Also note that if you’re hoping to use a new pillowcase to firm up a lackluster pillow or keep a buckwheat pillow on the firmer side, these pillowcases won’t do that (unless your pillow is King size and you size down for pillowcases).
How Homebird sheets perform
These sheets are the best I’ve ever slept on. I’m not exaggerating.
Even hotel sheets with a super high thread count don’t match Homebird’s Percale Sheets for quality.
Laundry day makes me a bit sad now as with line-drying and a toddler slowing down the laundry process, it inevitably means switching these sheets out for another set that isn’t quite as amazing.
The sheets feel cool to the touch, in a really pleasant way. And they stay like that all night. Given that this is just organic cotton, it’s astounding to me that there’s such a difference between these sheets and others made with GOTS organic cotton.
Why can’t all sheets be this good!?
The quality of the weave is impressive. I’m a hot sleeper and I’ve never felt this comfortable or slept so well during a heat wave.
I confess that I was a little worried these sheets would feel too crispy for comfort. Even after washing, there was a distinct ‘snap’ to the sheets as I dressed the bed. Would they be noisy, disruptive, and uncomfortable after all?
Nope!
Through some strange magic, these sheets feel simultaneously soft and crisp, cozy and cooling. They’re not at all stiff when on the bed and now I’ve washed them a few times they’re even softer than ever. There’s also no sign of wear and tear, with no pilling or loose threads.
I also really love the color, which is rich and consistent. We went for a Gray set and I’m considering getting a duvet cover in Dusk to create a super crisp summer look for our bedroom.

Sustainability at Homebird
Homebird is a family-run company and is much smaller than bedding giants like Avocado and Parachute. It punches above its weight though, with quality bed and bath products and excellent sustainability credentials.
Homebird’s supply chain is fully traceable, for instance. You can see on the Homebird website (here) where the fully certified organic and Fair Trade cotton in your sheets came from and where it was processed.
As a former Vancouverite, I love that Homebird is Canadian and based very close to where I live. The company designs its bedding in Vancouver and then uses ethical, Fair Trade certified factories in India to make the GOTS certified sheets and more.
All Homebird products are non-toxic and made with Fairtrade-certified organic cotton. The company’s entire supply chain is also Fairtrade-certified. This means that a portion of revenue does to Fair Trade to directly support communities across the globe.
Saloni and Gaurav Sanghai, the team behind Homebird, are new parents (like me and most of the Leaf Score team!). How they put together this company and created such fantastic products during a global pandemic while sleep deprived is beyond me. Kudos to them.
(The Sanghais are also a great example of how becoming a parent can really key you in to how most home textiles and bedding options are not safe or sustainable, especially for infants.)
Customer service at Homebird
Homebird has built itself a reputation for excellent customer service, with fast order fulfilment and a friendly and understanding attitude to returns and exchanges.
Happily, I haven’t had to use the returns service (just try and take these sheets back, I dare you!). I have reached out to Homebird with a few questions on sustainability and certifications though and the response is prompt, polite, and helpful.
Other customers report Homebird being really lovely and helping to arrange replacements or exchanges even when the error is on the customers’ side. This is the kind of attentive service that helps a business stay sustainable, so it’s really nice to see that the care Homebird pays to its materials and design also extends to its customers after purchase.
Homebird Percale Sheets – Care and maintenance
Like most organic cotton sheets, it’s best to machine wash your Homebird percale sheets with cold water on a gentle cycle. Wash with similar colors or as a separate load and don’t use bleach.
To dry, consider line-drying wherever possible. If that’s impractical, tumble dry on low and remove the sheets quickly to prevent excessive wrinkling. As with all percale, they’ll be some wrinkling, so you can iron the sheets on a warm setting if necessary. This will degrade the cotton faster though, so embrace the wrinkles if you can.
Homebird shipping, warranty, and returns
Homebird is based in Vancouver, Canada, and offers free shipping across Canada and the U.S.
There’s a 45-day return window, but for any damaged items you’ll need to contact Homebird within 5 days of receiving your order to initiate a return. That means you’ll want to check your delivery as soon as it arrives!
Homebird only accepts returns on unopened and unused items in their original condition with all packaging. This means bedding should be unfolded and still in the reusable cotton bag it came in.
Part of why the company uses the fabric bag is so that you can see the color and feel the fabric without having to pull out the sheets themselves. Homebird also offers fabric swatches if you’re not sure, for instance, whether that Mustard color will work with your bedroom aesthetic.
Like all bedding companies, Homebird has a few other caveats for returns and exchanges, which it lists in full on the website. Unlike some other bedding companies, Homebird is very friendly and helpful if you made a mistake when ordering or just change your mind about the color or sheet style (say, if you want sateen and not percale).
Final thoughts on Homebird Percale Organic Cotton Sheets
Homebird’s Percale sheets have seriously improved my sleep comfort. They’re beautifully made, sustainable, soft, crisp, and cool. They look great, feel great, and are easy to wash and dry, and Homebird even makes it easy to dress the bed and store the bedding when it’s not in use.
If you’re on the fence about Homebird’s sheets, take the plunge. These sheets are affordable, durable, and the perfect summer sleep partner, especially if you sleep hot.
