Why I love linen sheets
Linen is incredibly durable, lasting far longer than most percale or sateen weave cotton sheets. It’s also breathable, thermoregulating, and moisture-wicking, so you stay cool in summer and cozy in winter, whether you sleep hot or not.
Linen is truly a fascinating fiber. I got so interested in flax linen that I wrote a whole paper on it a few years back!
The quality, feel, and appearance of linen sheets varies greatly depending on the source of the flax, when it is harvested, and how it is treated while making the sheets. You can tell when a bedding company loves linen as they wax lyrical (flax lyrical?) about the who, what, when, and where of how the flax is grown.
Linen does have its drawbacks, though, including costing more upfront than organic cotton. Still, I believe the investment is well worth it, given how long linen sheets can last and how good they look and feel.

It’s very rare to find certified organic linen, so Avocado’s Organic Linen Sheet Set is a real treat. These sheets are made in France using GOTS certified organic linen and are MadeSafe certified and Climate Neutral too.
The linen is garment-washed, so there’s no initial shrinkage after you first wash these sheets. You’ll also enjoy softer sheets with each wash. The linen is weightier than cotton, more durable, and has that classic textured look and feel, with a casual drape that quietly whispers elegance and luxury.
These linen sheets are moisture-wicking, breathable, and thermoregulating, making them ideal for hot and cold sleepers all year round. The durable material doesn’t pill and Avocado says they don’t shed (they do, like all linen).
Avocado uses a weave resulting in a weight of 130 grams per square meter, which makes these sheets relatively lightweight for linen. They’re still durable, though, and could last for decades before you need to replace your sheets (meaning they’re well worth the investment!).
The Avocado Organic Linen Sheet Set includes:
- 1 fitted sheet
- 1 flat sheet
- 2 pillowcases.
Avocado also offers an organic linen duvet cover (view on Avocado).
The company offers a 100-night trial and 1-year warranty on these linen sheets, meaning you can try out the best linen sheets around and send them back if you decide linen isn’t for you after all.

Coyuchi offers a range of organic sheets, but the linen are my favorite. These Organic Relaxed Linen Sheets are MadeSafe certified non-toxic and are made in Portugal with linen woven from French flax. The flax isn’t certified organic (very little flax is) but is grown as part of organic crop rotation on French farms.
Coyuchi only uses low-impact dyes for color that’s kind to the planet and to sensitive skin. Coyuchi also uses a zero-waste water recycling method as part of its comprehensive approach to sustainable manufacturing.
As with all flax sheets, these sheets get softer with each wash and are durable. They will help you stay cool and dry in summer and cozy and warm in winter. The sheet set includes:
- 1 fitted sheet
- 1 flat sheet
- 2 pillowcases (1 in the Twin sheet set ).
This high quality linen has more weight than some other linen sheets but sheds very little fiber in the wash. It feels soft, looks amazing, and has serious staying power, making it well worth the investment.

The linen sheets are unbleached, undyed, and completely natural. They have a finely textured, crisp, and smooth feel, like traditional ultra-fine linens are supposed to.
Rawganique knows its linen, having produced these sheets since 1997 and with many happy customers returning to purchase more for guestrooms, family, and friends. For these luxury linen sheets, the company sources flax from 39 homesteads in France and uses 6oz flax that feels fine but is also cozy and durable.

Put simply, these sheets are as pure as linen comes, with Raqganique in control of the entire supply chain, manufacturing, and distribution. Cozy Earth’s Bamboo and Linen Sheets are a great option if your budget doesn’t quite stretch to linen or you want the benefits of linen but with a softer feel.
These sheets comprise 70% bamboo viscose and 30% linen and are:
- Thermoregulating and great for hot and cold sleepers
- Anti-static and anti-pilling
- Softer than pure linen
- Made with bamboo from USDA Organic farms
- Processed without harsh chemicals
- Made using water-saving practices
- Made in ethical factories.
The sheets also look fantastic, with a lovely drape and slight texture of linen with some of the sheen of bamboo viscose.
Each sheet set includes:
- 1 fitted sheet
- 1 flat sheet
- 2 pillowcases
- 2 reusable canvas zippered bags (heavy duty with handles).
Cozy Earth also offers a matching duvet cover and sheet separates.
The Cozy Earth fitted sheet fits up to a 20-inch deep mattress, but I’ve found it also works well for my 12-inch deep mattress, without excess material flapping about.
I’ve been using the Cozy Earth’s Bamboo Linen Sheets on rotation for more than a year and still love how they look and feel. They’re super soft and smooth, have a nice weight, and drape really well.
I sleep hot and these sheets tend to keep me cool on all but the hottest nights. My wife sleeps cool and loves how cozy these sheets feel.
The sheets have convenient labeling for quick bedding changes and storage. Technically, the care instructions are straightforward. In reality, though, I’ve found these sheets a bit troublesome on laundry day.
These sheets soak up a lot of water, becoming very heavy in the wash. You’ll want to give them an extra spin to really get out as much water as you can before drying. My queen size sheets and duvet cover feel too heavy for line drying, but they also get horribly tangled in the dryer. That means they need some close supervision during drying, which is a bit annoying. They also shed a lot of lint, so clear your lint trap after each drying session.
All in all, though, I love my Cozy Earth sheets and duvet cover.
