What we like about the Rawganique Organic Cotton Body Pillow
As with all Rawganique products, this fully organic cotton body pillow is free from sweatshop labor, non-toxic, and hasn’t been exposed to hazardous chemicals. It’s also made to order and ships free in the U.S. within 7-10 days.
Many body pillows have a cotton cover, but Rawganique uses U.S.-grown organic cotton both for the cover and to stuff this pillow. The optional pillowcase is also made with organic cotton sateen. All of which makes this a vegan-friendly body pillow.
The cotton batting provides surface softness with firm underlying support. That makes this a great body pillow for correcting spinal posture and in pregnancy, though I’d definitely recommend getting the zippered version to adjust stuffing if using as a pregnancy body pillow.
Rawganique offers this body pillow in two sizes:
- Junior – 54-inch long, 20-inch wide
- Full – 72-inch long, 20-inch wide.
Unless you’re a tall adult, the 54-inch version is likely sufficient for your needs and is more affordable and easy to move around.
We love that this pillow is stuffed by hand to avoid lumps and that the entire pillow-making process happens in the U.S. using organic cotton grown in the U.S. The organic cotton is also unbleached and undyed.
Organic cotton pillows are moisture-wicking, thermoregulating, breathable, and hypoallergenic. They’re also super huggable for all-night comfort.
Downsides to the Rawganique Organic Cotton Body Pillow
As you’d expect for such a large pillow entirely stuffed with certified organic cotton, this pillow is heavy and pricey. Even the Junior version weighs as much as 7.6 lbs. fully stuffed, while the Full size is 12 lbs. This pillow is about three times heavier than the Savvy Rest Kapok Body Pillow and twice as heavy as a wool and latex pillow.
The pillow is also expensive compared to the kapok body pillow, but comparable or less than the wool and latex body pillows from Savvy Rest. You can save a little by going for the Junior size of this pillow if you’re an average height adult or smaller.
This pillow is available with or without a zipper. The brass zipper only costs $8 extra and will allow you to adjust the fill to perfectly meet your needs. You can also use the surplus fill for home crafting or to refresh the pillow years later.
The pillow also comes with an optional organic cotton sateen pillow cover/pillowcase. I strongly recommend getting this as the bundle price is cheaper than buying the cover alone elsewhere. It’s also surprisingly hard to find genuine organic cotton body pillow covers that are the right size.
With the zipper option, you can remove all the fill and clean the cotton ticking (cover) as necessary. Without the zipper, this pillow is spot-clean only. You can also use bicarbonate of soda and sunlight to refresh this pillow if it develops a smell or light staining.
Cotton batting can settle, flatten, and compress quite easily and is a little harder to fluff up than kapok or down. Fluff things back up by putting your pillow in your dryer (if it fits) with a couple of new tennis balls or wool dryer balls.
Note that both sizes of this pillow are 20-inches wide. Unlike with Savvy Rest, Rawganique doesn’t offer a 15-inch or 17-inch wide option for this pillow, which is a shame. A 20-inch pillow takes up a lot of bed real estate and may feel too wide for shorter folks and kids with shorter arms (like me!).
Sustainability at Rawganique
Rawganique only uses sustainably sourced materials and eco-friendly processes to make this pillow and most of its other products. The family-run company began with a goal of making home goods free of hazardous chemicals, given the family’s own chemical sensitivities. That means you can rest assured that these pillows haven’t been exposed to chemicals that will off-gas into your home.
All Rawganique products are also free of PFAS, added formaldehyde, and many other egregious chemicals, and most are unbleached and undyed, meaning no risk of dioxin exposure.
The company doesn’t have a lot of green certifications but has been in business for decades and has a strong reputation for being eco-friendly, sweatshop-free, and animal-friendly, with no animal testing, animal cruelty, or indentured labor.
Final thoughts on Rawganique’s Organic Cotton Body Pillow
Aside from Savvy Rest’s Kapok Body Pillow and Wool and Latex Body Pillow, there’s little competition for Rawganique’s Organic Cotton Body Pillow. And if you’re looking for pure organic cotton inside and out, this pillow is where it’s at.
I appreciate the zipper option and ability to adjust the fill level of this pillow. I also love that there are two size options, though having a slightly narrower (15- or 17-inch) pillow would be a nice touch.
