What we like (and don’t) about the Savvy Rest Natural Wool Duvet Insert
The Savvy Rest Natural Wool Duvet Insert is a little more affordable than the company’s organic wool duvet, making it a decent option for anyone on a budget.
That said, for $100 more, you can get the certified organic wool duvet, which is arguably more sustainable.
If you’re keen to buy U.S. wool, though, the Natural Duvet Insert is your best option. The organic version uses organic wool from New Zealand. Despite the added distance, though, the NZ wool may have a lower carbon footprint overall, given the relatively lower environmental impact of organic versus conventional wool.
Other things to like about the Natural Duvet Insert include its sateen GOTS organic cotton cover, which makes it feel extra luxurious. The sateen weave is also likely to be durable and more resistant to rips and pilling.
I strongly recommend using a washable duvet cover with this wool duvet insert, because the insert itself is spot-clean only.
Downsides to the Savvy Rest Natural Wool Duvet Insert
Savvy Rest does not accept returns on duvets, claiming that this would require them to spray their products with chemicals, so they could resell them.
Some other companies donate returned products, so it’s a shame Savvy Rest doesn’t have a similar policy.
The biggest downside to this duvet insert, though, is the lack of green certifications for the wool.
Sustainability at Savvy Rest
Savvy Rest is a certified B Corporation, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and good working conditions, and they donate a portion of profits to American Forests, the oldest nonprofit conservation organization in the US, which helps help restore and maintain threatened forest ecosystems across the country and around the globe.
The company owns and operates a GOTS certified factory in the U.S., where most of its products are made to order by hand.
Savvy Rest is also an employee owned company (as of 2012). This usually means that staff are more invested in the company’s growth and in customer satisfaction. Employee owned companies tend to create a better experience for employees and for customers.
Savvy Rest has a longstanding Safe Sleep Pillows Program, which works to donate new pillows for women and children who arrive at domestic violence shelters across the US. When the new arrivals at these emergency shelters move on to find more permanent housing, they can take their new Savvy Rest pillow with them.
Finally, Savvy Rest is also a member of the Carbon Fund, through which they support reforestation along the Mississippi River, a vital habitat for migratory birds. Reforestation is a key part of efforts to mitigate climate change.
Final thoughts on the Savvy Rest Natural Duvet Insert
If you’re looking for a less expensive wool comforter in an organic cotton case from a company that gives back to the community, this one from Savvy Rest is a great choice.
That said, the Savvy Rest Organic Wool Duvet Insert (see our review) is only marginally more expensive and likely much more sustainable. The PlushBeds EcoWool Comforter (see our review) is similar in price and credentials, while the Rawganique Wool Comforter (see our review) is much more expensive but more sustainable overall than both Savvy Rest options.
